Forest Bathing RSVP - Thursday, June 4

RSVP for Harvard Affiliates

Experience this deep and restorative practice.

WHEN: Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 6:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.

WHERE: Arnbold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain, right across from the Brigham Faulkner Hospital.

You are invited to join us for this Forest Therapy session. Forest Therapy is a slow, guided practice – based on the Japanese tradition of forest bathing – that promotes well-being by immersing participants in the calming, restorative atmosphere of forests and natural environments. Decades of research support the physical and mental health benefits of spending time in nature. The program is free, but registration is required.

Location: We will meet at Flora Way Gate. This gate is on Flora Way. This is not the main entrance.

Comfort: Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes, layers, and comfortable shoes. If light rain seems possible, please bring a light rain jacket. There are a few portable potties in the Arboretum. Please try to take care of bathroom needs before arriving. Carry any items in a small backpack or just pockets, so your hands are completely free during the walk. We'll turn off phones and pagers as soon as we've gathered.

Weather: If it looks like it will be pouring rain or thunder/lightning on our date, I will send out a reschedule email by 5:00pm Wednesday evening June 3.

Contact: Let me know if you have any questions. My cell phone is 617-549-9405.

About Dr. Susan Abookire

Hello, I'm Dr. Susan Abookire. I started my career as an electrical engineer designing aviation systems for aviation safety. My journey took me to Harvard Medical School, and I entered health care with a deep passion for designing healthy, thriving systems in healthcare delivery. After over 2 decades as a healthcare executive designing healthcare delivery systems, I began teaching systems and relying on nature as our model and teacher.

One day I saw an article about Forest Bathing and becoming a Certified Forest Therapy Guide. I immediately connected with the knowledge that I was going to do this. One year later, in 2020, I began incorporating Forest Bathing and Forest Therapy in all my work. Now as a healthcare leader, educator, certified executive coach, and certified Forest Therapy guide, I dedicate my life to connecting us with ourselves, with nature, and with each other.

My programs include 1:1 coaching for women physician leader,s group coaching programs, and Nature as Medicine Practitioner training and certification. I understand the unique challenges faced by physicians, especially women. Whether you're a senior physician contemplating retirement or a mid-career physician seeking achievement and balance, join us.
